This. Is. Perfect.

She walked out the door into the beaming sun. The smell of freshly cut grass and newly planted flowers filled her nose. With excitement, she looked around to see if anyone else had noticed. She shouted, "Summer is here! It's amazing!" Her ecstatic shouts were met with stony silence. Why is no one else outside?

Determined to not allow that to ruin her mood, she ran out into the yard and somersaulted on to the grass. She rolled over on her back, closed her eyes and took a deep, satisfying breath.

This. Is. Perfect.

She opened her eyes once more to stare into the blinding sun. As she sat up, she looked around at her neighborhood. Every house was a different color but they all had lots of trinkets, wood chimes, garden gnomes, and more. Some would look at this and think "junk" whereas she saw "character." She was proud that her neighborhood was so unique.

Then he showed up. Her overly enthusiastic neighbor. She knew he liked her. But she just couldn't get into him. He ran over to the gate and yelled, "Hi there!"

Ugh...he always yelled. He was always too excited.

She rolled her eyes and mumbled a semi-polite, "Hi..."

She got up from her spot in the middle of the yard and began pacing. She looked around and suddenly everything seemed grey. The grass was not so soft. The flowers were wilting.

Her neighbor began pacing in the same way she was, all the while keeping his eyes on hers.

"Stop that!" She yelled at him, annoyed once again.

"Why?" He said back with a sheepish grin on his face. He knew how much it irritated her when he followed or mimicked her. But he just couldn't help it.

She decided to just ignore him. She bent back down to smell the grass in an attempt to revive the feelings she had when she first came outside.

"Hey, what ya doin'? Can I do it too?" He asked from over the fence.

Ignore him...just ignore him, she said to herself as she breathed deeper. She closed her eyes and sighed reluctantly. The grass was still alive, breathing and beautiful. Yet, as she looked up at the sun, it had somehow lost its luster. And now all she wanted to do was go inside and play with her toys.

Her mom came out and whistled to her, "It's time to come inside!"

Her tail wagged with joy at the sight of her mother. Finally! Get me away from this dog next door!

She ran as fast as her four legs could carry her up the stairs. She jumped on her mom's legs. Her mom let out a soft laugh and looked at her with joy and love as she bent down to pet her. The sun seemed brighter again. Summer is back! But this time, she decided to enjoy it from the living room window as her mom opened the door and let her run back inside.

Style File - A Week in My Wardrobe

Hey yall!

After my weight loss blog post, I had lots of questions about clothing. The main two were:
1) Where do you shop?
2) How do you "dress for your body type" on a daily basis?

Well, I'm certainly no expert. I'm learning as I go along just like everyone else, but I figured I'd try a different kind of post that might help.

Introducing, the "Style File" series. The first installment is essentially a lookbook, but not the kind I've done in the past where we scouted locations & had a lot of fun doing "photo shoots" with glamorous hair and makeup (see here, for example). Instead, this one is simply a week in my everyday wardrobe. I'm not a fashion blogger, I have no professional camera/photographer. These are pictures I took in the morning in my bathroom with my cell phone. No photoshop, no shoes I can't actually walk in, no gimmicks. Plain and simple. Also, I work in a super casual environment, so if you work in the corporate world...you might wanna save these ideas for the weekend.

That's it! I hope this post gives you some ideas or helps in some way. Particularly, you can see the places I shop frequently. Most importantly, while I'm no stylist, I've put a lot of work into finding clothes that flatter my shape. Sometimes, I don't always get it right. Some days I feel frumpy. I'm a work in progress, as we all are.

Every "Style File" will most likely not be a week's worth of OOTD's. Perhaps I'll do an outfit for a specific event or an outing with friends. But, it will always be pretty organic and simple (not a photoshoot set-up), as I want this to be an "every day girl" kind of series. I won't do these weekly (again, not a fashion blogger) but, I'll try to do this kind of post at least a few times a year.

Thanks for reading!

Biggest (Pleasant) Surprises
The two films that surprised me the most this year were Pain & Gain and We're the Millers. I already talked about my love for Pain & Gain in my post from June, so I'm not going to go back into why I think it's amazing. On the other hand, I had no expectations for We're the Millers. I went to see it on a whim. I was so pleasantly surprised. I laughed so much my cheeks (face cheeks lol) hurt after the movie was over. Plus everyone in the theater was having a blast so the atmosphere made it even more fun. Kudos to Pan & Gain and We're the Millers for rocking my world in 2013!

Also, I have to say Don Jon was a pleasant surprise as well. You'd expect the movie to just be about sex, sex, & more sex, but it wasn't at all. There was a beautiful message about relationships, infatuation, and truth in the film. I'd definitely recommend it!

The others that I marked as my faves were all amazing, but that wasn't a surprise. I expected them to blow me away. And they did. The movies from the latter part of the year (The Best Man Holiday, The Hunger Games, American Hustle, Anchorman 2, The Wolf of Wall Street, Inside Llewyn Davis, Her, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) were especially incredible. 2013 was a great year for movies. I'm excited to see what comes in 2014!

What movies did you love in 2013?
